Ancestry and Find My Past Library Edition
Check with your library if they have free access to these sites. You will usually have to visit in person rather than remote access.

Access to a worldwide range of records, some with images. You need to register to use site but you do not get inundated with e-mails. Is a partner site with Find My Past.

Find English & Births, Deaths & Marriages from 1837 – 1992.Use in conjunction with the GRO website which give the mother’s maiden name for births and ages at death from the start of registration useful to verify you have the correct birth or death.
 
General Register Office https://www.gro.gov.uk
You need to register for free account using your e-mail address and a password but you do not get inundated with e-mails. Use in conjunction with Free BMD to verify birth or death entries from the beginning of registration. This is the site to use to order Birth Marriage and Death Certificates for England & Wales

Baptisms - from 1538 -2000 – Gives Parents names, abode & father’s occupation
Marriages from 1530 – 2014 - Gives all information on Marriage Certificate inc. Witnesses
Burials  from 1530 – 1997 - Gives age, abode and occasionally other information e.g. Wife of, Son of or  occupation

Search can be narrowed down to a specific County Transcribed from the original records at the individual Register Offices around the UK and Wales. Gives the Sub District where registration took place. Marriages show the name of the Church or whether it was a Civil Ceremony Deaths give the age at death

Worldwide search for the final resting place of your ancestor. Also accessible through Ancestry and Family Search and Find My Past

UK burials and cremations Need to register for free account using your e-mail address and a password but you do not get inundated with e-mails. You can purchase credits if you wish to order copies of the records

Trace burials and cremations for your Birmingham Ancestors Free to Search but there is a charge if you order a copy of the registers. You may be able to obtain the information you require from other sources free of charge.
 
UK Government: Find a Will https://www.gov.uk/search-will-probate
Trace if your ancestor’s estate required probate and if they left a Will. Also includes Soldier’s Wills Copies of Probate and Administrations can be obtained at a cost of £1.50
Administration means there was no Will
Administration (with Will) means there was a Will but there was a problem with it
Probate means the deceased left a Will
